Hello? Is this thing on?<br />
<br />
I had every intention of returning to this blog once we got our own house and I could throw myself into decorating it and some fun projects.<br />
<br />
BUT. . .<br />
<br />
I think I'm just going to merge this with my personal blog.<br />
<br />
I just started an <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/OliveTheThings">etsy shop</a>, and I'm doing some sewing for my SIL's company so I don't really have time or motivation to start offering design services anytime soon, which was sort of the end goal with this blog.<br />
<br />
I do want to start doing the occasional design post, but I'll just keep them on my personal blog "<a href="http://olivethethings.blogspot.com/">Olive the Things</a>". So feel free to start following me there! Today I'm talking about paint colors for our new house! I'm so excited, but I really want to pick something we can live with for 3-5 years. Come on over and give me your opinion!<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidXetd8lT23QeUkTM8twvIHFFDo_S8qkObUmVS6oykEvWVIdMjG9oyPKdMYJGgadBoWXApvoCVm8bi8FHsKZMi8P_WOS0aae9MmUTbm_6l1eAimkL5wRwntFRSHMoYZ3y83gUxlqwjT0tX/s1600/This+is+so+temporary.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidXetd8lT23QeUkTM8twvIHFFDo_S8qkObUmVS6oykEvWVIdMjG9oyPKdMYJGgadBoWXApvoCVm8bi8FHsKZMi8P_WOS0aae9MmUTbm_6l1eAimkL5wRwntFRSHMoYZ3y83gUxlqwjT0tX/s640/This+is+so+temporary.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
"This is temporary." It's my mantra right now. I ran out of time to paint Olivia's crib (the one that came with her <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/04/nursery-chaning-table.html">changing table</a>, the one that we will now be using in our new apartment) and I'm having a new baby in less than two weeks (eeek!!) so its just not going to happen. I have a duvet cover pattern brewing in my mind and I even sketched it out, but new baby means that also goes on the back burner as well. My apartment is small, but it's my own space (NEED with a new baby) and even though it may not fulfill all of my design criteria it works for us right now. No new <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-i-have-boy-next.html">baby nursery in orange and aqua</a>, the baby will sleep in my (large) closet.<br />
<br />
So my point is, with a tiny apartment and a new baby coming this blog will probably take a little break. And I've finally come to terms with that. Because I'd rather share good posts with my own ideas than a bunch of interesting pins from pinterest (those posts have their place too! But pinterest pins do not a blog make)<br />
<br />
Hopefully by the end of this year we'll be moving into our own place, I'll have figured out taking care of two kids, and I'll have so many fun projects, tutorials and ideas to share!<br />
<br />
I'll be gone for a bit, but this is temporary! Loves!Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-35211470732496958742012-12-13T06:00:00.000-08:002012-12-13T06:00:11.162-08:00Oops, scratch that. . . It was just a week ago when I got super excited about adding gray into <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/12/toddler-room-color-scheme_4.html">Olivia's big girl room</a> but it wasn't too long after that when I realized. . . its not going to work. :( Not right now anyway.<br />
<br />
One reason. This cute little dresser. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtMxrl6VOUMWttez_Np8vnQO05w-6aDFwvMQq3FvuRIkFNvD2qD-ZsXy94IDs_pffinWbe6sxVtV4nauE7z1f-usoRNR_PDU2uWA2dbSx3cMuLWugrvcoNKMhwo9ANCfVKEcWWaZLnbzam/s1600/2149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtMxrl6VOUMWttez_Np8vnQO05w-6aDFwvMQq3FvuRIkFNvD2qD-ZsXy94IDs_pffinWbe6sxVtV4nauE7z1f-usoRNR_PDU2uWA2dbSx3cMuLWugrvcoNKMhwo9ANCfVKEcWWaZLnbzam/s640/2149.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Its not that I love it so much I would hate to paint it, its that I don't love it enough to put the money and effort into painting it, especially in the winter. And I don't know what color I would paint it even if I did, because I don't want everything turning super matchy matchy by painting it all the same shade, ya know?<br />
<br />
Sooooo, here is the updated color scheme. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT2aS7INjGhwnbOuHi7OjtUtXr_NBY7DhJJBW2_LLAGq1pTAzYjKX7SRLBtszQlTargPctKI9MqS-bVcgOP8OO3r8aVh9ppsJSdqJKPbHJdS9Ecx_asUcDit4YqLMSsVs62aT9sQCD0Pg0/s1600/Brown+scheme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT2aS7INjGhwnbOuHi7OjtUtXr_NBY7DhJJBW2_LLAGq1pTAzYjKX7SRLBtszQlTargPctKI9MqS-bVcgOP8OO3r8aVh9ppsJSdqJKPbHJdS9Ecx_asUcDit4YqLMSsVs62aT9sQCD0Pg0/s640/Brown+scheme.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I love it!! The aqua comes from the bedding, lighting, and various accesories. The brown comes from the dresser. The linen was inspired by Pantone spring colors 2013. The linen and berry help to give it that girly touch. The cream comes from the mobile (we'll call it a chandelier in a big girls room) and from some art work I have yet to reveal. The tan I just picked because I felt like it still needed something.<br />
<br />
What do you think?<br />
<br />
All colors are Valspar unless other wise noted. (starting with blue, then going left to right and up)<br />
Aqua bedding (<a href="http://www.oilostudio.com/Products/Raindrops-Crib-Set--Aqua__RAI3-A-prd-.aspx">Oilo Bedding</a>)<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicYoU6XNE4BmMtG8aeASzzcmwD2YPYWvSlpBRt2_7e7ZroWOInHT_nhip8ThQ9LVWin48dAVCr5CkJYQoVVQH_aNIGpQd7UiJUPwnlnDvZ01Jh2Hq2r4ymw76K6NdG76kcJjsEsNIQ8bkg/s1600/Pantone+Colors+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicYoU6XNE4BmMtG8aeASzzcmwD2YPYWvSlpBRt2_7e7ZroWOInHT_nhip8ThQ9LVWin48dAVCr5CkJYQoVVQH_aNIGpQd7UiJUPwnlnDvZ01Jh2Hq2r4ymw76K6NdG76kcJjsEsNIQ8bkg/s640/Pantone+Colors+2013.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So you've probably heard by now (if you read as many design blogs as I do!) that Emerald is Pantone's 2013 color of the year. I think its gorgeous, but I'm not sure if I can incorporate it into the rooms I'll soon be working on. But I do love some of the other colors they're choosing to be popular.<br />
<br />
The linen would look gorgeous in <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/12/toddler-room-color-scheme_4.html">Olivia's big girl room.</a><br />
<br />
The nectarine goes great with the aqua and orange colors I want for the <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-i-have-boy-next.html">new baby</a> (they're going to have to share a room for a while, but I haven't quite figured out that one yet!!) <br />
<br />
And lemon zest would be so fun to throw into my<a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/10/mini-master-makeover.html"> master bedroom,</a> which will soon go back to being white and gray (when we move into our new apartment in three weeks!!!) <br />
<br />
Which one is your favorite? Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-38695581573552419352012-12-04T06:00:00.001-08:002012-12-04T08:34:53.641-08:00Toddler Room Color SchemeSo awhile ago I posted <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/09/obsessed-with-nursery-design.html">this </a>about Olivia's new big girl room, and the direction I wanted it to go. I decided to go with the third option of keeping the blue, but adding some pink and other colors.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3GVtpFCgVIYRQCUJR_2HLoz7abFt9qmLPUYI7QifdP7kpPhU1HUDjx3u7w7nyq3XA-KZjSqedp9mEhOvmD5Txbu-DU1sKhDNFxs-eOxkb3-EHrrtqPl0djZNGoJiFqYT1uoxLkxM80aFw/s1600/Tan+Scheme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="137" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3GVtpFCgVIYRQCUJR_2HLoz7abFt9qmLPUYI7QifdP7kpPhU1HUDjx3u7w7nyq3XA-KZjSqedp9mEhOvmD5Txbu-DU1sKhDNFxs-eOxkb3-EHrrtqPl0djZNGoJiFqYT1uoxLkxM80aFw/s640/Tan+Scheme.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This color scheme was cropped from <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/172122016979750095/">this </a>mood board.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Okay, but long story short I started thinking about a toddler bed and what color to paint it and I was inspired by this picture.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdqJjor9IwORz0XLkw5RLvElsrejbbDCACDl-qu_C6b_IvqZzEPGOC2kIHYgEVN3-TdKQhxOEUaaj6FgrfX0QugRIK6JG-LjSws5Gu840BEpPbs6gfw3DKMXHYvpAmL7CLWBDZHAJ3-Zbl/s1600/Gray+and+pink.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdqJjor9IwORz0XLkw5RLvElsrejbbDCACDl-qu_C6b_IvqZzEPGOC2kIHYgEVN3-TdKQhxOEUaaj6FgrfX0QugRIK6JG-LjSws5Gu840BEpPbs6gfw3DKMXHYvpAmL7CLWBDZHAJ3-Zbl/s640/Gray+and+pink.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.oilostudio.com/Products/Freesia-Crib-Set--Blush__FRE3-BL-prd-.aspx">VIA</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBCSJsR3VhmW2iVdw3XU1GnNfBjkkYvEeljJ6VfCwK3GBKgb6V2iEQH7QJZcL_gtUJ2t6yjW311LIX0WUr4NqxGxIZS4WPLpEBEbrMLND0ioA1-iz9tQ2JqbxgcK9yx3SQ5ClwYbU9LS6O/s1600/Gray+Scheme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So I'm wondering if I take out the creams and add some gray instead if I'll still like it as much. And I think I do. . . <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBCSJsR3VhmW2iVdw3XU1GnNfBjkkYvEeljJ6VfCwK3GBKgb6V2iEQH7QJZcL_gtUJ2t6yjW311LIX0WUr4NqxGxIZS4WPLpEBEbrMLND0ioA1-iz9tQ2JqbxgcK9yx3SQ5ClwYbU9LS6O/s1600/Gray+Scheme.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBCSJsR3VhmW2iVdw3XU1GnNfBjkkYvEeljJ6VfCwK3GBKgb6V2iEQH7QJZcL_gtUJ2t6yjW311LIX0WUr4NqxGxIZS4WPLpEBEbrMLND0ioA1-iz9tQ2JqbxgcK9yx3SQ5ClwYbU9LS6O/s640/Gray+Scheme.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Perhaps I should do a more muted version of the pink, more similar to the bedding, to soften it up? I almost looks too bold/cold with those intense colors and gray. So here is what I came up with:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdzyxGrxd6Cn7_McppxTzTk-pNJ3WlX4IJyw5x1FvHUy2sn-fwXbwfY6PlNEO5UxRkB9Fg7IeGECKp_4rnIAtf2T2UrIclL7GffOAkKPKlyEO1D3YVcthFmE43o-BBb_E3YutuV-FlVpvX/s1600/Tea+Rose+Scheme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdzyxGrxd6Cn7_McppxTzTk-pNJ3WlX4IJyw5x1FvHUy2sn-fwXbwfY6PlNEO5UxRkB9Fg7IeGECKp_4rnIAtf2T2UrIclL7GffOAkKPKlyEO1D3YVcthFmE43o-BBb_E3YutuV-FlVpvX/s640/Tea+Rose+Scheme.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, last one, maybe with both pinks?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkUJD-rQGEvICL6RtPsYhppUi1ZpnBYeSo4DuDgPYW5jh0OXNRKRsdUxuiqN-cQdFCAGZiy5gJuXUcejnzbd8oV1nw0zC0WBPUeysVgZXzxeP9krBZOjBPJ32yz8Xrvte53qYGcIFUAYEB/s1600/Two+Pink+Scheme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkUJD-rQGEvICL6RtPsYhppUi1ZpnBYeSo4DuDgPYW5jh0OXNRKRsdUxuiqN-cQdFCAGZiy5gJuXUcejnzbd8oV1nw0zC0WBPUeysVgZXzxeP9krBZOjBPJ32yz8Xrvte53qYGcIFUAYEB/s640/Two+Pink+Scheme.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
My eyes have seen too much pink and gray now. I need some help. Which is your favorite? I'll come back and look again tomorrow and maybe I'll do better with fresh eyes!<br />

So I bought some, but thought it would be fun (and economical) to make some of my own! I was inspired by <a href="http://www.quintonwench.com/2012/10/feltchristmashearts.html">this post</a> as well.<br />
<br />
I used some inexpensive felt sheets from Hobby Lobby and some embroidery
thread to add details. I did a blanket stitch around the edges and
very lightly filled them with stuffing. I've done a blanket stitch
before, but needed some refreshing so I used <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXkSE2TTF4s">this youtube video</a>, if you're interested. :)<br />

<br />
I sort of forgot how small my tree was, so I didn't need to make too many to fill up my empty spaces. I thought I would make a bunch that were similar, but it was too fun coming up with new shapes and patterns! My favorite one is the star I made for the top of the tree. I think its perfect.<br />

And then when I put on my tree skirt it just looked so flat and limp, so my mother-in-law helped me fluff it up with some blankets and pillows. (sorry about the cords in the back, no excuses today)<br />

And the whole tree shot: (minus the star on top. . . this was taken on Sunday before the star was made, but I like that its taken in natural light, which is a luxury I don't have during the week!)<br />

Have you set up your Christmas tree yet?<br />
Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-83130646207979165072012-11-15T06:00:00.000-08:002012-12-04T08:31:31.577-08:00DIY Christmas (Stockings and ruffle tree skirt)My husband has a very strict policy about Christmas music and decor. Not until after Thanksgiving. Me? I say when ever the mood strikes after Halloween. Like last week, it was so warm I wasn't really feelings the Christmas music until Friday's snow storm. And then it was Tran Siberian Orchestra on Pandora all day long.<br />
<br />
But regardless of your personal feelings as to when the Christmas season begins, the truth is if you're going to DIY Christmas presents or decor you're going to have to start before Thanksgiving. So the other day I did something I've been threatening to do for three years: Made our Christmas stockings!! Seriously I bought the fabric soon after we were married (Nov 21) and I always think of it post Thanksgiving. Not this year. And do you know how long those three stockings took me? <i>Maybe </i>an hour each. Nap time + an hour after bedtime and I was DONE! <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You'll have to excuse the picture quality. By the time I get home from work, natural light is hard to come by!</td></tr>

<br />
My second DIY for Christmas this year was a ruffle tree skirt (<a href="http://www.hgtv.com/handmade/how-to-make-a-no-sew-ruffled-christmas-tree-skirt/index.html">tutorial here</a>). I made one last year for my student's donation to Festival of Trees, but it got donated before I got a post written about it. My husband did take a picture of it when we went to the festival, but I'm excited to finally be posting details about this project!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Last year's tree skirt went with the "Christmas Orange" themed tree. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I found a drop cloth that was 6' x 9'. I cut it in half to so I had two 4 1/2' pieces and then folded them into a triangle to square it up. And then I folded it in half a few more times and rounded the edge to make a circle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisAiOSCk-M0zkUwrufp4Eej6PIKjvEHpziteqVlFvJW9KmDTULynKSRCmYT-KHrNXB5hGpL2azRYpKgsp7wZ78APpr8PPkjXIoMaaodPuTsfAiSIF0w8FNlk7SglzKaWWa3KOjQ0ixu8tt/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisAiOSCk-M0zkUwrufp4Eej6PIKjvEHpziteqVlFvJW9KmDTULynKSRCmYT-KHrNXB5hGpL2azRYpKgsp7wZ78APpr8PPkjXIoMaaodPuTsfAiSIF0w8FNlk7SglzKaWWa3KOjQ0ixu8tt/s640/012.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After adding just one layer of ruffles it starts looking so pretty!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJNRJ1wrlX-37zuGLlPFCfjJMytgkl9KrMfdcyI918V7jryrkU03pX4ri-0mF_1MfDC9SW23LoSTgPShndUWKUYkuVNh1o-pOM_c0lPjnlIgmbgjy5i5tlhzw_suZ3K6w7r9eDHj9Ol2IV/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJNRJ1wrlX-37zuGLlPFCfjJMytgkl9KrMfdcyI918V7jryrkU03pX4ri-0mF_1MfDC9SW23LoSTgPShndUWKUYkuVNh1o-pOM_c0lPjnlIgmbgjy5i5tlhzw_suZ3K6w7r9eDHj9Ol2IV/s640/015.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After all the ruffles are done! Do I cut that extra fabric at the top? Add another ruffle? Not worry about since presents will probably cover it? (Probably the last one) <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
Somethings I did differently than the tutorial:<br />
<ul>
<li>I used unbleached muslin for more of a homespun look. (linen would be so much more expensive!) </li>
<li>I thought about getting extra muslin for the base, but I'm glad I went with the drop cloth as its a little heavier weight and I feel like it will last longer. </li>
<li>I needed 2 1/4 yards of 90" muslin and I cut my strips into 3 1/2" instead of 2" because I didn't want it to take forever and honestly the pictures in the tutorial look like the strips are wider than 2". </li>
<li>I wish I hadn't cut the circle in the middle until the end because I didn't end with the perfect amount of space at the end. </li>
<li>Its so much easier than it sounds! </li>
</ul>
Up next, some DIY Christmas ornaments!<br />

You might remember that I'm adding in some <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-i-have-boy-next.html">orange to my aqua bedding</a> to make it a little more "boy". The sheets that came with the set were striped, so I'm trying to find something similar or equally simple. The raindrops print on the crib bumper is so cute and I don't want anything to compete with it. My crib set pattern, for reference:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are some ideas for crib sheets:<br />
<br />
I'm keeping the aqua chevron rug with Olivia's room plan, so the chevron wouldn't be too overused in the space if I chose this one.<br />

I think we all know that. When I was in high school you wouldn't even think of wanting a gold engagement ring (it was a topic of conversation on a regular basis, complete with sketches. Don't act like you didn't do that too) but now I see more and more gold being used in jewelery.<br />
<br />
One trend in interiors is painted wood. I love it! <a href="http://www.nattybydesign.com/2011/10/transformation-week-day-2.html">Natty by Design</a> refinishes old wood furniture and I think her work is gorgeous. <br />

Of course furniture isn't permanent in your home and you could always change it out if the style changed.<br />
<br />
My friend <a href="http://www.e-tells-tales.com/2011/06/everett-elliots-nursery.html">Elizabeth </a>painted a built in shelf and phone desk. Her son's nursery is so perfect, I can't imagine it with the original knotty pine. <br />

<a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2012/03/i-painted-my-built-ins/">Centsational Girl</a> painted her family room built ins. In such a high traffic area, that is a huge commitment! I absolutely love how it freshens up the room, but what do you do when painted wood is out and natural wood is back in style?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNlbokkCadZdhTr7eiJ_R9cYsDZDb_r7wrona5a16_YpsWbtRQjc_zCr67spgupEvsKsdtmkhIqg2WpFH9ZrQKoI6rpU7kEexlSllMjhANmBVcwkQKzAtEx312eoIiJQOGK4tI1f93OEyC/s1600/CG3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNlbokkCadZdhTr7eiJ_R9cYsDZDb_r7wrona5a16_YpsWbtRQjc_zCr67spgupEvsKsdtmkhIqg2WpFH9ZrQKoI6rpU7kEexlSllMjhANmBVcwkQKzAtEx312eoIiJQOGK4tI1f93OEyC/s640/CG3.jpg" width="432" /></a></div>
<br />
And last, <a href="http://www.decoradventures.com/2012/09/why-ill-never-paint-our-wood-trim.html">Jessica at Decor Adventures</a> has vowed to never paint her original wood trim in her home (over 100 years old!!) Its stunning and fits the vibe of the house. Plus, painting all the wood trim in a house would be a HUGE commitment. <br />

What do you think of painted wood? Could you commit to it, knowing it might not always be in style? Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-54192924083215650672012-10-30T06:00:00.000-07:002012-10-30T12:31:13.795-07:00Shop Etsy: Feet on the Floor (+Discount Code!!!)My friend Allison recently started an Etsy shop (<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/FeetontheFloor">Feet on the Floor</a>) sharing some of her thrift store finds and I think she has the best taste! I asked her a few questions about how she got into thrifting and she was so nice to answer them for me.<br />
<br />
<div>
<b>1. When did you start thrift store shopping?</b></div>
<div>
I have an actual memory of thrift shopping back to age 4 :) I
pretty much grew up thrift store shopping-- and especially yard saling.
My parents were really into it, mainly for economical reasons, but the
adventure is and always will be part of the addiction. In fact, growing
up, my parents would make us kids stay and man our own yard sale, while
they went out yard saling themselves :) So it's always been a part of
my life, but I'd have to say that once I got out of college I really got
into it to the point that I am today-- I'd consider it an addiction,
and my family may or may not be worried that I am approaching hoarder
status . . .</div>
<div>
<br />
<b>2. What is the best thing you ever found?</b></div>
<div>
That is way too tough a question! My very favorite part is the hunt, so
finding stuff I love (which happens often!) always feels like the best
score ever. Sometimes it's a score because it's just simply something I
happen to be looking for, and other times it's just something I think is
really cool or unusual. The icing on the cake is when it's also
valuable, but that is definitely not a requirement for me to feel like
it's an awesome find. Due to my aforementioned hoarding habit, I end up
selling a lot of my finds, even though I think they are rad. The ratio
of cool finds to what I can actually use is way off, thus my Etsy shop
emerged out of necessity. Here are a couple of recent finds that are
some of my "personal bests" as of late:</div>
<br />
A 1960s era Danish style credenza, made of teak. Scored this for only $60 . . . worth somewhere around $600+.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggunfx9ClDyuMjo0vXTGzp126gSInMMGMd7JCLkzP3cHOODvVmxtDz-GiUJPJ4lHOeJF7bxgNztJYnn0CEG3khy1_l8FQVhnM_BORzxdUPliylkmh9oIJKPe7g0g6w9rRiUlSbJWHAjM-m/s1600/FF1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="620" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggunfx9ClDyuMjo0vXTGzp126gSInMMGMd7JCLkzP3cHOODvVmxtDz-GiUJPJ4lHOeJF7bxgNztJYnn0CEG3khy1_l8FQVhnM_BORzxdUPliylkmh9oIJKPe7g0g6w9rRiUlSbJWHAjM-m/s640/FF1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A 1950s era Hand painted Kitchen set. The cool thing about this, is
that I actually found the bread box down in southern California about 4
years ago. Then just a few months ago, I found the rest of the entire set at a thrift
store in Sacramento. This set is actually up for sale in my shop :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ57Y9JyWREgUgxedUyBjH0aTkxWUbK7PlH-r5NJO9EKFuZEFu5sA3MLMaD2aw8gPRk8LL1pvzCVJY1K7743MBlCmRmMfBzbZsB8aAMtx4Rk7XqH4dH5ZKGf8aZAG4al9oh53eUeYwvTbs/s1600/2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ57Y9JyWREgUgxedUyBjH0aTkxWUbK7PlH-r5NJO9EKFuZEFu5sA3MLMaD2aw8gPRk8LL1pvzCVJY1K7743MBlCmRmMfBzbZsB8aAMtx4Rk7XqH4dH5ZKGf8aZAG4al9oh53eUeYwvTbs/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
A pair of 1960s era designer patio lounge chairs in the perfect
shade of aqua! The crazy thing, is there were actually 4 of these, but I
could only fit 2 in my bus! If I hadn't been so far from home, I would've driven back and bought
the other 2! This was a bittersweet score . . . ok that just sounds
ungrateful. Picked these up for $20 each, worth around $250- $350 each.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuX-mG0vMNBFFEdcUTCH88pZ58l81vK9hbNijLfHu18yfIXMhWRW0Z9TmRfAAoVCxLG8IBxxqTMiKQjd2JeksjBVb2mehL5tFzhz83naBJgtCPU-_KxLQ9yZY_cBVO3eLUV3pzIALS8FQy/s1600/FF2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuX-mG0vMNBFFEdcUTCH88pZ58l81vK9hbNijLfHu18yfIXMhWRW0Z9TmRfAAoVCxLG8IBxxqTMiKQjd2JeksjBVb2mehL5tFzhz83naBJgtCPU-_KxLQ9yZY_cBVO3eLUV3pzIALS8FQy/s640/FF2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A 1940s era embossed vinyl headboard (full size) in jade green. Ok,
aside from this being super cute . . . I got it at a thrift store for
$1. Only ONE DOLLAR! Crazy!!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMlLNdqQr3w_pxrCblxM6PlA398P-4ahNMInKjmX8ovz-VsdKIrJ-i0qnzzU9ceZ49SSVeMUKclkVbSpFjATaiY6shLWXEcOgWffyVvA4AeKlPn1DytjlectZIMtsnW97l6QjeIjgsP2El/s1600/FF3.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMlLNdqQr3w_pxrCblxM6PlA398P-4ahNMInKjmX8ovz-VsdKIrJ-i0qnzzU9ceZ49SSVeMUKclkVbSpFjATaiY6shLWXEcOgWffyVvA4AeKlPn1DytjlectZIMtsnW97l6QjeIjgsP2El/s640/FF3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>3. What is your favorite place to thrift?</b><br />
<div>
<b> </b>My
favorite place to thrift is somewhere I've never been :) I get to
travel a lot for my job, so I am always thrifting in new places. I love
finding new thrift stores! Ok that's the honest truth, but kind of a cop
out answer. Of all the places I've been, I'd have to say that my very
favorite place to thrift shop is probably El Dorado Hills (northern CA)
because I always seem to find a TON of good stuff, EVERY time :) I also
prefer the "mom and pop" type thrift stores over the chain ones, as they
typically have better prices.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
And of course I have to share with you some of my favorites from Allison's shop right now:</div>
<div>
</div>
How cute would this guy be in a nursery? I imagine lots of bright colors and painted wooden toys with this canvas just completing the vintage feel. (Should I change my whole nursery theme <i>just </i>for this picture? Sooo tempting!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwrn4saZKe3kQdH1WId4PJoYB3FUBssh78Uelmgfd9Caue07-jOHgHh9qahxQ7nS4ofIJ19MFYWSZoQRHdiYQFV0_KhoxhJYrS1AbmZEC3KHRc21tSlGDgD0SlmFsz2PPYOHLvQujW-_EZ/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwrn4saZKe3kQdH1WId4PJoYB3FUBssh78Uelmgfd9Caue07-jOHgHh9qahxQ7nS4ofIJ19MFYWSZoQRHdiYQFV0_KhoxhJYrS1AbmZEC3KHRc21tSlGDgD0SlmFsz2PPYOHLvQujW-_EZ/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm shocked that this canister set is in such good shape and all together (I wrote that before Allison told the story about it! Now I'm even more shocked!!). What great addition to a vintage style kitchen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ57Y9JyWREgUgxedUyBjH0aTkxWUbK7PlH-r5NJO9EKFuZEFu5sA3MLMaD2aw8gPRk8LL1pvzCVJY1K7743MBlCmRmMfBzbZsB8aAMtx4Rk7XqH4dH5ZKGf8aZAG4al9oh53eUeYwvTbs/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ57Y9JyWREgUgxedUyBjH0aTkxWUbK7PlH-r5NJO9EKFuZEFu5sA3MLMaD2aw8gPRk8LL1pvzCVJY1K7743MBlCmRmMfBzbZsB8aAMtx4Rk7XqH4dH5ZKGf8aZAG4al9oh53eUeYwvTbs/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I want this. We'll see if my husband will let me buy it before yours will. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This iridescent gold lamp reads like a neutral and could go with so many different styles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I love these plates, and even though they're dishwasher safe I would use them as an art piece in the kitchen. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj81CbSDuHKKDCauA_AsYLnMKRWRHbGItBLR4h34A-6APY-nCMZew9p2sthLJY8j_HQUJI8fwHRQlSQLJr9VG-fsJxWOJBZETM5cqRIn7AEXYAAUbUER3ZyeDtfTNajD-3Hse3K6vrRoRgT/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj81CbSDuHKKDCauA_AsYLnMKRWRHbGItBLR4h34A-6APY-nCMZew9p2sthLJY8j_HQUJI8fwHRQlSQLJr9VG-fsJxWOJBZETM5cqRIn7AEXYAAUbUER3ZyeDtfTNajD-3Hse3K6vrRoRgT/s1600/5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I love traveling and have always been drawn to old fashioned suit cases. Sure you can use this to travel with or you can use it to decorate with. Vintage suit cases (if they're really flat) work great as a novelty end table when paired with a camp stool. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My biggest hurdle? I don't have a fireplace!! My mother-in-law does a gorgeous mantle for Christmas, so I'll share a picture of that in December. In the mean time I'll just show you some of my favorite fall mantles from blog land and dream about the day I have my very own fireplace. <br />
<br />

One of my very first fall pins from last year. It might be a little late in the month for Halloween decor, but the fall leaves in the vases would transition to November nicely. <br />

First, I love that movie, a good balance of funny and touching. And I love the couple Harold and Ana. They couldn't be more different, and the style of their homes really portray that.<br />
<br />
Harold in his bedroom. So stream line, so modern and so simple. It does a great job of extending his character as an IRS agent obsessed with numbers into his living space, deepening his personality. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5VV_Z-Jd354Zp2mTUL4wcEa_ppPX1nK0g31zuO-m7a6AptFR32hjSrD13t9OYQD4yjdiLW7OSTLyO7DPNsyoJ-MNRaI5kkDRdaejESgmwTa2dGWBbsL9Vkr9yr68hWUq9pupHVrHbKEAE/s1600/stf1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWwqR_w384aWcXFwsdRXTXfl08fcg38z_scHEUll-_hSuHuE4QydIER1Tv0rzTkK2a9qUehyphenhyphenoRX9Yw0QpBjcD5Ss7slUgslhXTSMs6enlBU4Q8XodZI4jf8Rt8xkOqAuIG5ytL7sAbdmC/s1600/stf2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="344" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWwqR_w384aWcXFwsdRXTXfl08fcg38z_scHEUll-_hSuHuE4QydIER1Tv0rzTkK2a9qUehyphenhyphenoRX9Yw0QpBjcD5Ss7slUgslhXTSMs6enlBU4Q8XodZI4jf8Rt8xkOqAuIG5ytL7sAbdmC/s640/stf2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You can see a few more example of his home in this collage. I have to say I'm really drawn to the extreme modern, but not flashy, interior of his apartment. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGXcs62TCRDdTneTowcVrQ-IgBToSv6rIZK0p4biAF56CINcAVr0erE3kcmzOxJirU1MXgsRPXZDT_LUQ1hPs1lkeCxBiDd8ioAPaeKWdxD4gUoHLPZAr_9q0uv40Tb5AkvpfZwkZFqxr-/s1600/stranger_than_fiction_opening_contact.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGXcs62TCRDdTneTowcVrQ-IgBToSv6rIZK0p4biAF56CINcAVr0erE3kcmzOxJirU1MXgsRPXZDT_LUQ1hPs1lkeCxBiDd8ioAPaeKWdxD4gUoHLPZAr_9q0uv40Tb5AkvpfZwkZFqxr-/s640/stranger_than_fiction_opening_contact.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And his hippie, tax evading girlfriend Ana. Her home is a collection of mismatch thrift store finds. Lots of bright colors and eclectic patterns. It speaks volumes about the kind of person Ana is.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5VV_Z-Jd354Zp2mTUL4wcEa_ppPX1nK0g31zuO-m7a6AptFR32hjSrD13t9OYQD4yjdiLW7OSTLyO7DPNsyoJ-MNRaI5kkDRdaejESgmwTa2dGWBbsL9Vkr9yr68hWUq9pupHVrHbKEAE/s1600/stf1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5VV_Z-Jd354Zp2mTUL4wcEa_ppPX1nK0g31zuO-m7a6AptFR32hjSrD13t9OYQD4yjdiLW7OSTLyO7DPNsyoJ-MNRaI5kkDRdaejESgmwTa2dGWBbsL9Vkr9yr68hWUq9pupHVrHbKEAE/s640/stf1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And the awesome set design didn't stop with the main characters. Harold stays temporarily with his co worker Dave, who is similar to Harold but has more of a playful side to him than Harold does (at first anyway). His apartment shows that. Its also modern and clean, but its more funky and space agey. Its just genius. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAkqXF5KWQXe_sW52LY27UXSNzZK5Fxu-bsc8VnpaIXiRSBL7BAcrPOF_7HC7AG_2qDv-eCxJC1SATpU-5YvT-a6EKkOPCg8r5hGIsY20D4ctMbs8TKyAGNvfrHj2sVjdr1KYm4jRvkVy3/s1600/stranger-than-fiction-11.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAkqXF5KWQXe_sW52LY27UXSNzZK5Fxu-bsc8VnpaIXiRSBL7BAcrPOF_7HC7AG_2qDv-eCxJC1SATpU-5YvT-a6EKkOPCg8r5hGIsY20D4ctMbs8TKyAGNvfrHj2sVjdr1KYm4jRvkVy3/s640/stranger-than-fiction-11.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGXcs62TCRDdTneTowcVrQ-IgBToSv6rIZK0p4biAF56CINcAVr0erE3kcmzOxJirU1MXgsRPXZDT_LUQ1hPs1lkeCxBiDd8ioAPaeKWdxD4gUoHLPZAr_9q0uv40Tb5AkvpfZwkZFqxr-/s1600/stranger_than_fiction_opening_contact.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
Of course characters in a movie can be a bit more one dimensional. It might not be that easy to channel your personality into your interior design, but it does beg the question: What does your interior say about you? :)Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-21786044815046182442012-10-18T06:00:00.000-07:002012-10-18T06:00:03.365-07:00Mini Master MakeoverWhen we were first married we lived in an apartment with white walls (surprise, surprise) and I actually liked them in the master bedroom. I went with a white, black and gray color scheme (never could get my husband on board with that "splash of pink" I had planned). But when we moved into my in-laws house the beige walls did not jive with <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2011/09/easy-fabric-art.html">our gray art work</a>. We also had gray sheets, and I didn't want to have to buy all new king size sheets (expensive!) just for a temporary look.<br />
<br />
So a quick, easy and less pricy tip for a temporary sheet change is just get new pillow cases. I finally got around to that today. . . oh you know 10 months later. And using some borrowed throw pillows from my mother-in-law (she's an addict) I did a little mini makeover on my bed. <br />
<br />
I decided to go with tans and creams and thought that might be a little too boring on its own. I showed my husband Pantone's fall 2012 and had him pick the color he thought would look best in our room. Actually I think I made him choose between tangerine and chartreuse. He chose chartreuse. I bought some chartreuse pillow cases, but decided not to use them in the end. I guess the creams and browns aren't too boring on their own! <br />
<br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/172122016979894985/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://media-cache-ec6.pinterest.com/upload/62206038573742663_VPIZnVi6_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">

</div>
<br />
<br />
Here's the pillow configuration with the green (this is the only angle that they looked even somewhat decent!) Don't mind the black and white lamp shade. I'm trying to figure a way to temporarily cover a lamp shade. . . email me if you know a trick.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibPD1wdEVUE8qRrjjFlvxOmg6XRdL8NyKw7_z140gc8w51p6WwbgEMwM0Jkfjq0xB6V_KKQpzLyxSMbZ5NOX0KINyNZ8AASjl13iqiiQQK_nj7_tlf_9Oo_13mI8R_RFpNIP-fHVhSbZ1c/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibPD1wdEVUE8qRrjjFlvxOmg6XRdL8NyKw7_z140gc8w51p6WwbgEMwM0Jkfjq0xB6V_KKQpzLyxSMbZ5NOX0KINyNZ8AASjl13iqiiQQK_nj7_tlf_9Oo_13mI8R_RFpNIP-fHVhSbZ1c/s640/004.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here are the pillows with the green pulled out. The textures of the other pillows really help give interest so a bright color isn't necessary. <br />

Today I am posting at <a href="http://www.savvydesignwest.com/">Living Savvy</a> about my My Five Fall Favorite Kid Decoration. I had so much fun helping the kids I nanny make Halloween and fall decorations for their house, go over and check it out!<br />

June? Maybe even May! But after hanging it I decided to change the fabric to something more simple. And then I had such bad morning sickness that was not going to happen. And then I found out I was having a boy, so I would rather change the fabric to match the new boy's nursery I have brewing in my mind. And then. . . just kidding. That's the end of it. So many excuses!<br />
<br />
But in the mean time, I thought I would share. I haven't had time for any new projects since I started nannying and it gets old sharing inspiration pics all the time! I want to share my own work!<br />
<br />
I found these placemats at IKEA and wouldn't you know they were almost exactly the same color aqua as Olivia's bedding? Isn't it funny how you notice the colors you're currently working with? I covered some cork pan holder things (actual name anyone? I mean, not the name in Swedish because that's what IKEA gives me) with fabric that played off the aquas, creams and circle concept. I laid everything on the ground and moved it around until I liked the layout. Then took a picture so I could recreate it on Olivia's wall.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFTJ8FZ9ZRLC3eovu5n2bGzcO2BSP1AoJXYSN3uury5DK_1927Vuj2HxHTRMRRyXpLqZnd8jnRxf6AhpOIcDSL_VEz_rc8RKmrkT0gfA1ptbkLrixLIWaIaqDJz-7RwmRSVSw_1XYaRSGw/s1600/083.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFTJ8FZ9ZRLC3eovu5n2bGzcO2BSP1AoJXYSN3uury5DK_1927Vuj2HxHTRMRRyXpLqZnd8jnRxf6AhpOIcDSL_VEz_rc8RKmrkT0gfA1ptbkLrixLIWaIaqDJz-7RwmRSVSw_1XYaRSGw/s640/083.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When I took these pics Olivia's crib was being used for a photo shoot for Oilo. That's why there isn't a full wall picture. Sorry! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwAkwlVsdPCtdNpjBpd1Y9t1c9DgBy9H30T7fEKX0w_CjTi2249HTvRPfId5FptFhsQAjX88SISq5HO0nCbEwB2u_uZN79DrB7nWroyyX38BeUPcCagDBawZvVNZ0fUsWklYkQqHpiP1AK/s1600/098.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwAkwlVsdPCtdNpjBpd1Y9t1c9DgBy9H30T7fEKX0w_CjTi2249HTvRPfId5FptFhsQAjX88SISq5HO0nCbEwB2u_uZN79DrB7nWroyyX38BeUPcCagDBawZvVNZ0fUsWklYkQqHpiP1AK/s640/098.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Do you agree that the fabric is too busy? Now that I know I'm having a boy and that I want to do an orange and aqua nursery I'm just going to wait and change it to fit the new color scheme. Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-88596530363928324612012-10-02T06:00:00.000-07:002012-10-02T06:00:07.600-07:00One Kings LaneHave you heard of <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/">One Kings Lane</a>? Its a home goods and accessories website with a few different sales every day and the prices are discounted from what you would normally have to pay. I signed up back when I was looking for a rug for Olivia's room, but its so much fun when I find the time to browse some of their sales! Here are some of my favorites from yesterday.<br />
<br />
I've never had a chance to use fancy napkin rings for a dinner, but a couple years ago in a model home I saw napkin rings used as a decoration on bathroom towels. Super chic.<br />

They had this throw in several colors. Cream, gray and brown were my favorites. Nothing says fall like a knit blanket!<br />

We were not engaged, not even really talking about marriage, but without skipping a beat he mentioned that he would close his eyes while getting his breakfast in the morning if I decorated my kitchen in those colors. What was so appalling to him? Orange and avocado.<br />
<br />
I still love these colors together. . . <br />

<br />
What kitchen colors are your <i>current </i>favorite? :)Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-12554677983004260812012-09-25T06:00:00.000-07:002012-09-25T06:00:12.811-07:00Obsessed with nursery designYeah its no secret that nursery design is kind of my favorite. It can be sophisticated, or not. Its always easy to find accessories, just dig through the toy box! (That's what I did to style Olivia <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/04/nursery-chaning-table.html">changing table in this post</a>)<br />
<br />
But here's my dilemma: You've seen how I plan to update Olivia's <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-i-have-boy-next.html">bedding for a boy </a>(which is what I'm having! I'm so good at guessing the gender of my unborn children.) but what do I do for Olivia? <br />
<br />
<b>Option 1: A totally different direction.
</b><br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/80713018292017365/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="420" src="http://media-cache-ec2.pinterest.com/upload/80713018292017365_oxgckhk3_c.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
Source: <a href="http://marytbet00.tumblr.com/?id=393671009" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">marytbet00.tumblr.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/erickasd/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">salanon</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div>
</div>
<br />
I've always love shabby chic design, but its not really <i>me</i>. So while I don't really see it happening in the rest of my house, I've always wanted to do a little girl room in shabby chic, because its so beautiful and totally girly. <br />
<br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/261068109618640078/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/upload/261068109618640078_pzvCjC9w_c.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
Source: <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?itemdescription=true&itemCount=80&startValue=1&selectedProductColor=&sortby=&id=17851239&parentid=A_DEC_BEDDING&sortProperties=+subCategoryPosition,+product.marketingPriority&navCount=5&navAction=jump&color=&pushId=A_DEC_BEDDING&popId=APARTMENT&prepushId=&selectedProductSize=" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">urbanoutfitters.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/laurennlamb/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Lauren</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div>
</div>
<br />
I could just give her a room full of ruffles and pinks and flowers. When will I have another chance?<br />
<br />
<b>Option 2: Stay with the aqua and brown color scheme.</b><br />
<br />
I have fabric to make a toddler blanket in the aqua, and there are some accessories in Olivia's room that just wouldn't transition to a boys room.<br />
<br />
For example, these knobs:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3fq3_ZmEn-oTTOGVu2b-0_-sDtYmNTgLAzAoZQK-YIg3XCpsjvUnlWsKMMCwRuVdxN0c3ZMe9D-y3yObvpTHYAeyjbPq4jRa0hyW0BQh2AqG7qed1DcgY5ighdrYgiAksOx0qnEm276ZQ/s1600/2145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="550" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3fq3_ZmEn-oTTOGVu2b-0_-sDtYmNTgLAzAoZQK-YIg3XCpsjvUnlWsKMMCwRuVdxN0c3ZMe9D-y3yObvpTHYAeyjbPq4jRa0hyW0BQh2AqG7qed1DcgY5ighdrYgiAksOx0qnEm276ZQ/s640/2145.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And the art work I've been working on very <strike>fast</strike> slowly, which I want to reveal. . . soon, fits with the aqua color scheme.<br />
<br />
<b>Option 3: A blend of aqua and girly, modern and ruffles.</b><br />
<br />
I just found this inspiration board which is a cute blend of aqua and modern. I don't love every thing about it, but I do love the colors and the pillows. <br />
<div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/172122016979750095/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://media-cache-ec5.pinterest.com/upload/141089400796729497_v5U6iZOY_c.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">
Source: <a href="http://www.chiccheapnursery.com/2011/design-advice/modern-whimsical-toddler-girls-room-nursery-upgrade/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">chiccheapnursery.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/kt_designsalt/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Kimberly</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div>
</div>
<br />
<i>Plus</i>, I already have that rug!!<br />

<br />
Back in high school I had a bag of every Crayola marker that they made. Sadly a lot of those color sets are no longer being made. :( I used these markers to decorate letters that I wrote to my friends. I was always designing new decorations and lettering styles and I really loved the pastel colors of blue and peach together. They weren't really "in style" back in the 90's but a quick scan of pinterest shows that they are now! If you love something, don't question if its the right thing to love. Trust your instincts and love what you love.<br />

I made her a quilt for Christmas and so I originally was going to work on her <a href="http://designsaltinteriors.blogspot.com/search/label/My%20Parents%20Master%20Bedroom">master bedroom</a> but somehow it morphed into curtains and chairs in her living room/dining area. My sister-in-law came to help me, and thank goodness, because this is not a one person job!! Pregnancy saps so much of my energy so we didn't get nearly as much completed as I had hoped but we did finish one of the two wingback chairs in the living room! I used <a href="http://www.savvydesignwest.com/2011/08/how-to-reupholster-wingback-chair.html">Tiffany's blog post</a> for inspiration and tried to follow in her footsteps of using as much of the chair as possible. We used some of the tack strips and the piping and all of the padding and cushioning. I think that saved us a lot of money and a lot of headaches! Here's how it all went down:<br />
<br />
We started by removing the back. Its important to remember how the pieces are attached. We did the whole project in four days so that made it easier, but if you were going to spread it out over time: pictures, pictures, pictures!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf7YmwzYZrY9fBiFmeXgvQn94XgAo9FXm0x-Xj_x-zodRbfviCOSvwybOmmlUk7OhJ_M1JMMelomWjUQVGsEnFdaCuIgxt0FgMsCj2dga55NEwwPMXf1FKextBokk809Cfu09W-RDlzqqk/s1600/Chair3.jpg"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf7YmwzYZrY9fBiFmeXgvQn94XgAo9FXm0x-Xj_x-zodRbfviCOSvwybOmmlUk7OhJ_M1JMMelomWjUQVGsEnFdaCuIgxt0FgMsCj2dga55NEwwPMXf1FKextBokk809Cfu09W-RDlzqqk/s640/Chair3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Then we removed the sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZruV1m8T1Y98oyXzfYeMWgOclKQxZEy6-6pZ1XyL0dHrs88YDmBBxnmMJuGlHZuHwNOYGmtJHJ8lZyxRS-iXncQzIBpy9cflOIrdQMLUBRnAFpKx_cT6tJPERNoVHqojLPiPlAfjWd76d/s1600/Chair4.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZruV1m8T1Y98oyXzfYeMWgOclKQxZEy6-6pZ1XyL0dHrs88YDmBBxnmMJuGlHZuHwNOYGmtJHJ8lZyxRS-iXncQzIBpy9cflOIrdQMLUBRnAFpKx_cT6tJPERNoVHqojLPiPlAfjWd76d/s640/Chair4.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Lots and lots of staples to remove!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe0WFTWWCG27yQqHrUdQZAiNqu6aqTZj23_FTg4VIbN4Lc1ywM-KE27dUNLpvVJ8X61KrERAwB13_u12fAHhGFWGihhUv5Kr9uQcocl8V9IwceDkLB83wd_O_HkMZdfEycDpZ_DmjylAlv/s1600/Chair5.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe0WFTWWCG27yQqHrUdQZAiNqu6aqTZj23_FTg4VIbN4Lc1ywM-KE27dUNLpvVJ8X61KrERAwB13_u12fAHhGFWGihhUv5Kr9uQcocl8V9IwceDkLB83wd_O_HkMZdfEycDpZ_DmjylAlv/s640/Chair5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You might also want to have a small vaccuum ready. There was a lot of dust and pet hair (from the former owners, my mom doesn't have pets) from years of use built up in there. Fun.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisSxBBXHd6eR3VpZiJEixCoqgMwO9gzKTpsxFeHr9ef1YCzOhzbzFY5b9p-uBuO3mJ2mvvu0Q7G1d0fYDUsRlbpV3G6DK_WoJNc_zSVqLvZ0-vBi1ylWdKxGVS2hKA9ALw7gie3Ea5rWUL/s1600/Chair1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisSxBBXHd6eR3VpZiJEixCoqgMwO9gzKTpsxFeHr9ef1YCzOhzbzFY5b9p-uBuO3mJ2mvvu0Q7G1d0fYDUsRlbpV3G6DK_WoJNc_zSVqLvZ0-vBi1ylWdKxGVS2hKA9ALw7gie3Ea5rWUL/s640/Chair1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My dad thought we were making it look to hard. Then he found out how hard it really was! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE34LflyWJd3QrnPkRjfwTosevOCFslgFMjh2hyphenhyphenRAgTYjf4P_tHv9bsjEsLf-vo2vrimNBYwEtv6hZDmWA4YiDcs14Ak0l6QKtK73kD05gBG8cwqq7bxwVriw-PEcelgb1FiVIDVa3802m/s1600/Chair6.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE34LflyWJd3QrnPkRjfwTosevOCFslgFMjh2hyphenhyphenRAgTYjf4P_tHv9bsjEsLf-vo2vrimNBYwEtv6hZDmWA4YiDcs14Ak0l6QKtK73kD05gBG8cwqq7bxwVriw-PEcelgb1FiVIDVa3802m/s640/Chair6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Eventually we got the chair down to this. Our padding was still in really good shape, so we didn't mess with that. Other tutorials will tell you to take it down to the bare bones and build up with all new padding. I say, if you don't have to don't do that! I can't imagine how much harder that would have made this project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9oJuJ6hrxzvjWFCWUKodWvfmWBJXLJiM8XpObNGxGbso3_jnR7Jw1aRMKKLEqhI4HXzxSkU0JR3H0oq56Kok7xXdjn3MvHRszKgbAtvOfe0SWoStc-YPl8iPiQqlE76p2knVWsS_iCxQP/s1600/Chair7.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9oJuJ6hrxzvjWFCWUKodWvfmWBJXLJiM8XpObNGxGbso3_jnR7Jw1aRMKKLEqhI4HXzxSkU0JR3H0oq56Kok7xXdjn3MvHRszKgbAtvOfe0SWoStc-YPl8iPiQqlE76p2knVWsS_iCxQP/s640/Chair7.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This is when the project started getting exciting. We could see the beauty start to shine through the mess and exhaustion! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_l2ndr92a58fS7bZkV4UITen0a7jmZBqVZ5m533fnzSlqMFafmlf0CcvY_NN9_acks7Kkpi4FhO4Czve4yRFxXKT795uCfnARQtc4e1higbGp4D1LTY1-wtgEdoKaepJHQjw7OtBOaG5x/s1600/Chair10.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_l2ndr92a58fS7bZkV4UITen0a7jmZBqVZ5m533fnzSlqMFafmlf0CcvY_NN9_acks7Kkpi4FhO4Czve4yRFxXKT795uCfnARQtc4e1higbGp4D1LTY1-wtgEdoKaepJHQjw7OtBOaG5x/s640/Chair10.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
From the front you almost couldn't tell it still had a long long way to go!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMHI8yXKKCSNlq3DXbRvtc5MvvsnaGFSTgnpNTEXhTdNOsS_ZY2EfJkieZGqzZJYVo9AuuLZidRMFfOMtQ6eaqwemBw-WnfZvpPDyMPqVWWCNi3YrfXe0Grw6In0reOndWjY50jlYZdiFO/s1600/Chair11.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMHI8yXKKCSNlq3DXbRvtc5MvvsnaGFSTgnpNTEXhTdNOsS_ZY2EfJkieZGqzZJYVo9AuuLZidRMFfOMtQ6eaqwemBw-WnfZvpPDyMPqVWWCNi3YrfXe0Grw6In0reOndWjY50jlYZdiFO/s640/Chair11.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And we ended right where we started, by putting on the back of the chair.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdx_TErZPa377mYyY33oha1bxs-7zq4uW5_TTp9TJn_7FU6G1JPZkv-3VEiidsCLoT-6G2MwKCd_skZjh24xEpwbJH9fDhH0UC_XAI5Dnsabjrs8BLnnj-L-6iQpY6fQIRVLAz7GcTD6hh/s1600/Finished3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdx_TErZPa377mYyY33oha1bxs-7zq4uW5_TTp9TJn_7FU6G1JPZkv-3VEiidsCLoT-6G2MwKCd_skZjh24xEpwbJH9fDhH0UC_XAI5Dnsabjrs8BLnnj-L-6iQpY6fQIRVLAz7GcTD6hh/s640/Finished3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
From the side. One thing I love about this chair is the piping. We did it in a coordinating solid blue. Its a little hard to tell but it really makes it pop. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0y_bYSoGYdtI4VejMNtEuvVdG8-ojI_wDdSU0QcWg-q5dCWubCzuvQ5fTDvLOQsOSd8ZL6M-bPU4C_UxBo_kSf2_gfLqhGn3ucpt90pKTkMUuAxJMxb63TWbQuazcb4Uelb9zDXaVfbwj/s1600/Finished4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0y_bYSoGYdtI4VejMNtEuvVdG8-ojI_wDdSU0QcWg-q5dCWubCzuvQ5fTDvLOQsOSd8ZL6M-bPU4C_UxBo_kSf2_gfLqhGn3ucpt90pKTkMUuAxJMxb63TWbQuazcb4Uelb9zDXaVfbwj/s640/Finished4.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I feel bad we only had time for one! We're going to have to do the other at Christmas time (joy). In the mean time my mom is keeping this one covered so they don't wear unevenly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We made a lot of mistakes a long the way! But thankfully no one will ever know but us. If you have any questions about this project feel free to email me at kimmisue22@gmail.com (yeah, yeah, my email is weird. I'd change it if it wouldn't be such a huge hassle.)</div>

So yeah, I was excited to see a Design Star All Stars show! My first and biggest hope: Sparkle Josh!!! I said, "YES!!!" out loud, complete with punching the air when he showed up on screen. I may not love his POV (point of view) but he is SO. FUNNY.<br />
<br />
Here is what they had to start out with:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjahnjNZmymWUhGxbLO0vFZ9s0MunqRjHyPcHwt2TSJDHrHGLkcOVuAMOhiAvNSSBVm5LMAJv-xaP0TvugHg7tztOBnyHpP79_wy-5Fz7OrZqf3VxigURAKVJU4sL2xnz-znDiKPeYg5qX0/s1600/White+box.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjahnjNZmymWUhGxbLO0vFZ9s0MunqRjHyPcHwt2TSJDHrHGLkcOVuAMOhiAvNSSBVm5LMAJv-xaP0TvugHg7tztOBnyHpP79_wy-5Fz7OrZqf3VxigURAKVJU4sL2xnz-znDiKPeYg5qX0/s640/White+box.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But! They said this is not a white box challenge. Don't be confused by the white box in front of you. This time you're going to shop at an actual furniture store. I guess the difference is that you get to buy actual nice things instead of trying to make stuff from a grocery store or Asian market?<br />
<br />
So here is Dan's room, the winner of this and every white box challenge ever. (Actually, I liked his white box from his original season where they shopped at a grocery store just a tad bit more)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMnA1tE4nXckJK0JYXY0DS_aUqtpQRgRdEjkbWrX_V4c761Id_HtL-PfzsdsnkrIDE1eT6pSWnHt6S5D9xA2ArpFAoEh8fIjejoM0uLLb0lmd4KsotdEoFy5QqWJy6_af084f055EQQ3_H/s1600/dan.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMnA1tE4nXckJK0JYXY0DS_aUqtpQRgRdEjkbWrX_V4c761Id_HtL-PfzsdsnkrIDE1eT6pSWnHt6S5D9xA2ArpFAoEh8fIjejoM0uLLb0lmd4KsotdEoFy5QqWJy6_af084f055EQQ3_H/s640/dan.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_5BH7hA3Lj9Jxmp89LcYY9GBFTl2SrYi0dhyVUF4dkTEDvdp1cn9ohIk1_8GnIQQebCNFjr80NhAXJl4xFVWYIdZ7BXOjIDCR5GDw1fecumcjFW6LlwC4Po-PvD3_OeBjI8YpcLk0vv2/s1600/Dan3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_5BH7hA3Lj9Jxmp89LcYY9GBFTl2SrYi0dhyVUF4dkTEDvdp1cn9ohIk1_8GnIQQebCNFjr80NhAXJl4xFVWYIdZ7BXOjIDCR5GDw1fecumcjFW6LlwC4Po-PvD3_OeBjI8YpcLk0vv2/s640/Dan3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_jFqbcSUWRZuV2lxktAOtz-R3ciorACK6jKaPur1IxNK3Gf7uHsfqQp0mCPFWTeg29CQqUvjSE5yXxhkN-a6UnAbO106-tbJJcEFiuFf3KoPrPDNDvTdww0KpAvOJo8ZmFT6OSMOAnl4g/s1600/Dan4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_jFqbcSUWRZuV2lxktAOtz-R3ciorACK6jKaPur1IxNK3Gf7uHsfqQp0mCPFWTeg29CQqUvjSE5yXxhkN-a6UnAbO106-tbJJcEFiuFf3KoPrPDNDvTdww0KpAvOJo8ZmFT6OSMOAnl4g/s640/Dan4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Everyone raved over his idea to cut out a high boy silhouette and turn it into a bookshelf. It was just a little too crafty for me.<br />

And here is Hilari's room, third runner up from season 7 (which aired 1 or 2 weeks ago) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hilari knows what she is doing, especially when it comes to shopping for nice things. <br />

You could probably guess the designer of this room. In fact, that would be a fun game to play. Too bad I already watched the show and know the answers! This room was designed by Sparkle Josh (named because there were two Joshes on his season) He was the fourth runner up on season 2 (if I remember correctly. . . )<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have to agree with the judges, his sofa choice was a bit off to me. A little too frumpy for such a glam room. <br />

This room was my personal favorite, designed by Leslie. Leslie was also in season 6 with Kellie, but I can't remember when she went home and the internets are not being very helpful! <br />

Vern kind of hurt my feelings when he talked about the awesome shopping center they had available so there wasn't any need for "homemade art". I love making my own art! And I think this piece by Leslie is modern and bold. I would pay for it. <br />

Tom's room, which had the most lived in, real life design feel I think. The space planning was something you had to be inside the room to appreciate. From the outside I just feel like an intruder.<br />

Which room was your favorite?Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-41001571019765948382012-07-26T06:00:00.000-07:002012-07-26T06:00:10.265-07:00If I have a boy nextSo I've been a long time in between posts because I'm pregnant and I get very sick at the beginning of my pregnancies. <i>But </i>things seem to be looking up for me (despite a little set back yesterday morning when I lost my breakfast) and I've been feeling much better!<br />
<br />
So I've been thinking about what to do with the nursery if I have a boy. The crib set I have for Olivia is pretty high end and its theoretically gender neutral (despite the fact that I chose it because was the most girly design at the time. Now they have a beautiful pink set that I'm super jealous of!) so I don't want to replace it. I've really styled Olivia's room to be more on the girly side, even though there is still a ways to go as far as decorating, but I just don't see it as a boy's room (in fact, Olivia and baby will probably have to share a room, so it really should work for both boy and girl)<br />
<br />
But inspiration struck from the strangest of places (as it always seems to) and as I was dressing Olivia in a ruffle tank top with some orange shorts I realized how much I loved the orange against the aqua and how lively and boyish it made the aqua feel. So here are a couple of ways I could incorporate orange into the nursery <i>if </i>this baby turns out to be a boy.<br />
<br />
See how cute these colors are together??<br />

<br />
I could <i>change </i>up my changing table (hahaha!) by maybe spray painting the baskets orange, or making my own throw pillow using orange and aqua fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnTNi60MXBnMPYYrp3_kHWl0BTzTnWxRvAwgTPUNiOJJlA-KdKXtmNf0fTGkqSLCvrHCJeKDQiLV3xCE6q6bY0H7Bl9JWs_baaMavAbXi_fisYJ-2axcBtiqgpZqkwq4ulUQmUYmqVCXxx/s1600/2090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnTNi60MXBnMPYYrp3_kHWl0BTzTnWxRvAwgTPUNiOJJlA-KdKXtmNf0fTGkqSLCvrHCJeKDQiLV3xCE6q6bY0H7Bl9JWs_baaMavAbXi_fisYJ-2axcBtiqgpZqkwq4ulUQmUYmqVCXxx/s640/2090.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I would love to find an old lamp base at a garage sale or thrift store and spray paint it orange with this lamp shade. How cute would that be??<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMS6ldK1a1T6DWfR-6N5-JL0yf1yj0YXK937G_u5DX_NCPG1GjQ0DxMk9jd0k-nwnPdLUbLzbPH1mcJaQvrvTZfBcso1scba0hTT_2mbehhLnXkjMszrB5MqZUWZcsJTbru3qJ-2MWZ_oe/s1600/2056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMS6ldK1a1T6DWfR-6N5-JL0yf1yj0YXK937G_u5DX_NCPG1GjQ0DxMk9jd0k-nwnPdLUbLzbPH1mcJaQvrvTZfBcso1scba0hTT_2mbehhLnXkjMszrB5MqZUWZcsJTbru3qJ-2MWZ_oe/s640/2056.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This picture doesn't show the crib ties, but I could easily remove the aqua ties and sew on some orange ones just to <i>tie </i>in the crib set with the new color scheme (my goodness, I'm not even trying for these puns!)<br />

<br />
And lastly, I really want this super cute plushie from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/iviemade?ref=search_shop_redirect">IvieBaby </a>(currently on vacation so I can't order just yet). She makes it in a range of colors and I would have to get the aqua with an orange bow tie. Or an orange one with an aqua bow tie? I just don't know! <br />

What do you guys think? Which would be the funnest ways to add a little orange to the nursery?Kimberlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06520199684836826209noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7919966511409350406.post-59523222582053371452012-06-01T06:00:00.000-07:002012-06-01T06:00:00.114-07:00Don't think I haven't been paying attention, PinterestAs a kid, I loved wrapping gifts. I would double fold the paper so you wouldn't see any raw edges, I used double sticky tape so you couldn't see it, and the ribbon! I could use almost a whole roll of curling ribbon on each gift. But have you noticed the new trend in gift wrap is less is more? So here are some gifts I gave as going away presents to the teachers I worked with and the daycare coordinator that's taken care of Olivia every day for the past school year.<br />
<br />
These brown boxes were just $1 at JoAnn and the baby rick rack was too cute to pass up!! These were some tile magnets I made for their brand new classrooms they'll have in the fall! (Our department is getting a remodel this summer!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiSzsuCiZ9xNxzDMzpIYuuMqeLFit8OnQZvtt9GPlct69R4sVZwozvofLONw84Idb170vMDWYonWfANy6DlqKLFhgmPGhZICldNHbspAkZNCwHY0ic6jjb5FGpv2Fa0CzhB_pr70nQRyZ6/s1600/boxes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiSzsuCiZ9xNxzDMzpIYuuMqeLFit8OnQZvtt9GPlct69R4sVZwozvofLONw84Idb170vMDWYonWfANy6DlqKLFhgmPGhZICldNHbspAkZNCwHY0ic6jjb5FGpv2Fa0CzhB_pr70nQRyZ6/s640/boxes.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This mason jar was $1.50, but if you have some laying around you wouldn't even have to buy it! The flower was also from JoAnn and I cut off the stem and hot glued it to a magnet so you can use it on your fridge instead of throwing it out! And a small scrap of tulle finished the look. This was a super yummy smelling body scrub I made with just sugar and body wash. <br />

But that turned out to be very expensive. So they have a lot of samples that they don't actually sell just sitting around their office. I asked if they had anything in aqua that they would be willing to sell me and they actually just gave me these two lamp shades! I love them. They add some great personality to the space, and I love that they are the same color as Olivia's crib set!<br />

They also gave me several yards of an aqua stripe fabric they didn't end up using. Trying to decide what to make. Should I cover her chair or make a play blanket or both?<br />
